Case Studies

PHILANTHROPY ADVISORY

The Client: A mother, in her 60’s, with a 36-year-old daughter & two young grandsons. Since losing her husband almost 20 years ago, she has gone on to build her wealth.

The Issue: With women over 55 being the fastest growing group of homeless in Australia, our client wanted to “create more & better housing options for older women”.

The Strategy: Based on the enormity of the housing crisis & considering the donation size & duration , we advised of an alternative strategy – to create more & longer-term impact with a smaller donation.

The Rationale: After extensive due diligence & building a trusted relationship, Women for Election was selected. It provides women with the skills to stand for & succeed in public office, & improve gender parity in Australian politics.

The Gift: We recommended our client provide a multi-year grant to support organisational capacity & provide a path to scalability & sustainability. This year, we have the highest female representation in Australian politics in history.

The Impact: By supporting more female representation in government, our client contributed to more balanced discussions - including about homelessness among older women.

PURPOSE-DRIVEN PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The Client: YHA Travel to Learn Foundation, the charitable arm of YHA Australia, a for-purpose organisation.

The Brief: Develop a program to enable school students to attend excursions who would otherwise miss out due to disadvantage —  including those with geographical barriers, financial hardship, health issues, housing instability and/ or challenging family circumstances.

The Project:  Create and manage the full project lifecycle — from collaborative planning to stakeholder engagement, processes, systems & impact reporting. Ensuring transparency, accountability & real-time learning.

The Twist: Establishing partnerships with four for-purpose organisations to deliver consent education; mental well-being sessions; financial literacy; & environmental education. Providing valuable real-life education & increasing our charity partner’s reach and revenue.

The Impact: In its initial six months, Travel to Learn has supported over 80 disadvantaged young people to travel, learn & grow.

The Future: After a successful trial in New South Wales, we are supporting Travel to Learn to expand nationally with the ambitious goal of helping 600 children in its first two years.

And it’s only the beginning.
